The course will be shared on a platform that you will have unlimited access to once purchased.

You will be given access to a private Facebook group where you can post all of your work-related questions. Once a week a designer will reply and provide feedback.

The courses will be held in a members only hub. You will have access to them from anywhere and anytime by using a unique login and password. 

A computer with Photoshop installed and a scanner (or you could outsource your scanning if you don't have one at home). You will also need access to a computer and internet access to view your classes, as they are available through a members only hub. A printer might also be helpful to print out supporting resources.

You can choose to pay using our budget-friendly, monthly installments over a duration of five months.

I already have some Adobe PhotoshopPhotohop experience. What will I learn that’s new?
If you’re not used to working with hand-painted watercolor elements or hand-painted watercolour paintings in Photoshop, then that’s where we can shed some light. It’s about handling that ultra-light; see-through edges correctly; about learning to change the colors without having to use the limiting Hue/Saturation sliders; about, about cutting out backgrounds cleanly and quickly. Believe us, there are no time-wasting tutorials here. In fact, much of what you learn in Photoshop for Fabric Design: Watercolor will help hurry your process.

Plus, unless you have already worked as a professional print designer, you may not already know how to Index.  This is a very important. It’s a process used to minimize the number of colors in your design so that you or your client can produce the work cheaply.

I’ve never touched Photoshop before. Should I attempt this course?
We have had true beginners do this course before, and we do touch on some of the basics of Photoshop. That said, you might want a little more hand-holding for example: more detailed information on how to set up a file or navigate the program. If that’s the case, we recommend our beginners course, launching very soon. Please sign up here and we’ll notify you as soon as it’s available.

Can I interact with the other students online?The first time you sign up to The Print School you will be invited to join our private student Facebook group. It’s the spot where all students converge to discuss their work, to ask questions of the instructors and other students. They talk about their challenges, ask and offer recommendations.  It’s a great group with some very active members and is a wonderful resource for print designers.

I’ve already completed the Photoshop for Fabric Design: Illustration course. Is there any overlap between the two? We made sure  to make this course very different from Photoshop for Fabric Design: Illustration so we don'tdont double up on content! 

Here’s a run down of the main differences between these two popular courses.

The Motifs
Let’s start with the most obvious difference. Photoshop for Fabric Design: Illustration shows you how to create a print design in Adobe Photoshop using illustrated floral motifs (ie. floral elements using black line-work and no paint, colored pencils, or colored marker).  Rather than scan pre-painted elements, here you learn to color and render your flowers digitally. That is, inside Adobe Photoshop. This process allows you to create a huge range of different colours and effects

In Photoshop for Fabric Design: Watercolor we start with hand-painted floral motifs. So the treatment of the motifs is different. As explained above, we work to accurately scan and cut these delicate paintings, then either enhance or change the colours from the original. We don’t render our motifs digitally here.

Key Practices
Photoshop for Fabric Design: Illustration shows you how to create an industry-standard repeat, otherwise known as a repeating pattern. This is a process most paying customers will expect from your artwork.

Photoshop for Fabric Design: Watercolor does not show you how to create a repeat. Instead it walks you through the indexing process. Indexing is another important process to learn, especially if you plan to work with commercial customers. By reducing the number of colors in a painted design, a print can be produced using a cost-effective method called screen printing.

Another great (somewhat complicated) process covered in the Watercolor course is color separation.

Tools
Yes, there is some double up between the Photoshop tools we show you, but you will learn to use them in very different ways.

What Motifs Do I Need? Ideally, watercolor-painted floral motifs, ideally.  

To be more specific, A3-size page featuring a few lovely full flower heads, some buds, some stems, and foliage is a nice mix. If you don’t have your own original elements, you can purchase our pack from The Creative Elements to save you time. These elements were painted by our in-house designers at Longina Phillips Designs studio and we invite you to use them! Just please be aware that we do not permit the sale of designs that use our elements exactly.
If you don’t have your own elements but would like to learn how to create your own first, we recommend you take this course first: Watercolour Florals for Fabric Design. Here we teach you the skills needed to paint with this very difficult medium, focused on painting with your end textile design in mind.
